Well done!
Thank you so much for this post. My little boy was born on New Years day and I spiralled out of control within days, pretty much as a result of all of your bullet points. Four years on, this time of year makes me reflect “What if I’d done X, Y, Z differently” and prevent us from even contemplating a brother or sister for my little boy. (I definitely need to put your second book on my Christmas list!) I’m an avid Eastenders viewer, (I probably need a support group for that) but I’m not sure I will be able to watch on Christmas Day; watching someone else (even a fictional character) suffering will be too raw.
Thank you Elaine for sharing and for your continuing plight sharing this with others. I am a midwife of of 18 years. We hold a very privileged role in caring for women both physically and psychologically. I agree many women are failed just like you due to stigma and poor collaborative working. I attended a study day at University of Lancashire held by the Midwifery Students Society ‘Two Sides to the Coin’ – theme Perinatal Mental Health – we heard personal experiences from service users and local services for women and their families, and improvement needed from both in order to care for women better. Keep going you are doing a fab job – Merry Christmas x
I love the superwoman analogy. I see many women who have had traumatic birth in High dependency on labour suite and I always try to talk about feelings both for mum and dad. Walking on egg shells is another worry. Thank you for being frank and encouraging that it will get better.
